Rey of Sun

Anyone who knows me personally can tell you that I am obsessed with Lana Del Rey. Seeing that I mentioned her in my post about statement necklaces, I thought I should do a post and include some of my favorite photos of Lana. Although I am the first to admit that she completely flopped on Saturday Night Live, I remain a devoted fan because the combination of her style, super-sweet demeanor and songwriting skills completely outweighs her one-time debacle in my mind. I think Lana is gorgeous, talented, and stylistically gifted- earning her the #1 spot in my list of celebrity obsessions.

Bloom

So I realized that me doing album reviews is, well, pretty stupid if you come to think of it. With the availability of Pitchfork and the fact that I am but a 16 year old girl, I decided to instead just talk about specific new albums that I like.
The most recent full album I've fallen in love with is Beach House's Bloom and, maybe it has something to do with the summer and the weather, but I feel like this album could not have come at a better time. I feel like I had a bit of a dry spell back in the spring music-wise where I hadn't heard much new stuff, and what I was hearing I didn't really like. I ended up just listening to a lot of Brian Jonestown Massacre and old songs by The National and feeling less than enthused, but suddenly all in one night I saw the movie Drive for the first time and this album came out and it felt like the beginning of a really good summer.
Somehow the 80's-inspired soundtrack that made Drive visually and sonically coherent blended perfectly with the beeping notes that start off "Lazuli", not to mention the fact that the 17 minute song "Irene" shares its name with Ryan Gosling's love interest in the movie. For some reason or another, the two completely separate entities are now connected in my mind and without the matured -but still classic Beach House- sound that Bloom is filled with, I may have never come out of my winter rut. So here's to Bloom, the soundtrack of my summer.

For a while I've been really loving statement necklaces, and recently I've found some that I think are seriously awesome. I'm on a search for the perfect statement necklace for myself, and these pretty, intricate, or just plain cool ones are just a few of what I've stumbled upon. What do you think?

All American

So it's been six months since my last post and i feel like I've been completely neglectful and I'm sorry! To make up for my absence I've decided to do a post on my favorite "non-designer" brand of all time: American Apparel. Though I don't agree with a lot of the brand's advertising system (naked girls, all the time), their idea of vintage inspired basics is genius. As a true fan and devotee of the made-in-the-usa company, I thought I should post some of my favorite outfits and pieces from the brand that has no brand.

Superlatives

Sorry its been a while yet again, I've been incredibly busy but I DO have this week's best dressed:
Kate Bosworth in Prabal Gurung at  the Vanity Fair Oscar Party
I love the low back look, and I'm definitely searching for a long sleeved low back option for prom (which may be a few months away but its worth looking). Anyway, Kate looks beautiful per usual and her Louboutins are the cherry on top of the bejeweled cake.

Pre-Fall, Be Kind

I am incredibly excited right now because I just discovered Chanel's pre-fall collection, titled "Chanel Paris-Bombay", thanks to an update from Nylon. Yes, it is a super chic blend of Indian and Parisian influences and yes, I am in love. Here are my top 5 favorite looks from this amazing collection:

The Other Olsen Girl

I recently saw the newest movie that everyone who knows independent films has been talking about: Martha Marcy May Marlene. More surprising and compelling than the incredible directing and plot was the performance by Elizabeth Olsen, who is the younger sister of fashion icons and personal favorites Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. Aside from an amazing portrayal of Martha, Elizabeth Olsen somehow managed to always look incredible, even when hiding from her fellow cult-mates knee deep in dirt in the middle of a forest. Though I am in love with Martha Marcy May Marlene, Elizabeth's cover of the October issue of Nylon is what really cemented her place as #1 in my current fashion and celebrity obsessions.
